Movies About Friendship

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

We had to kick this list off with the wonderful The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

If you’re looking for a coming-of-age film that will highlight both the difficulty of navigating a quirky friendship and the beautiful moments it produces, this is a great option.

The movie follows a teen, Charlie, who struggles to fit in when he moves to a new high school due to a history of mental health problems.

When he connects with two other seniors, Sam and her brother Patrick,

The Breakfast Club

This is the ultimate movie about friendship. If you’re looking to enjoy a classic throwback, you need to watch this one.

Although it was made and set in the 80s, the barriers overcome by the unlikely friends it follows are universal and timeless.

The movie focuses on five high school students who meet in Saturday detention.

Each one is a part of a different clique or has a distinct style that sets them apart from the rest.

However, despite appearances, they all have more in common than they thought.

Me And Earl And The Dying Girl

Now, we have to warn you, this movie is not for the faint-hearted.

However, it is a wonderful depiction of how great friendships can be forged under difficult circumstances. This movie will make you laugh and cry!

It follows Greg, a high school senior who loves to spend his time making low-budget films with his friend, Earl.

In a bid to be more social, the two strike up a friendship with Rachel. However, as Rachel’s health deteriorates, the two must confront the messiness of life.

Thelma And Louise

It would be a crime to write a list containing the best movies about friendship and not include the classic Thelma And Louise.

Directed by Ridley Scott and written by Callie Khouri, this movie has become an iconic depiction of a chaotic and loyal female friendship.

It follows Thelma and Louise, two good friends, as they embark on a road trip.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, their fun road trip becomes riddled with drama and criminal activity. This truly is a must-see movie!

The Help

If you’re a fan of a period drama, The Help is a great option.

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name written by Kathryn Stockett, this movie explores the effects of racial discrimination in 1963.

This movie follows Eugenia Phelan, a young white woman, who attempts to become a legitimate writer by writing a book from the perspective of her two black maids.

In doing so, unlikely friendships are formed and the detrimental effects of racism are detailed.

Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids

If you’re looking for a movie to enjoy with your girlfriends, Bridesmaids is an excellent option.

This perfectly-cast movie manages to depict the very relatable dramas and difficulties associated with female friendships in a brilliantly funny and heart-warming way.

Focused on the preparations for one woman’s wedding day, it explores the competition between the maid of honor and the bride’s longstanding best friend.

Thanks to a comical lineup of other bridesmaids, the journey to the wedding is anything but simple.

How To Be Single

Struggling with a tricky breakup? This movie will have you thinking that you’ll never need to be in a relationship again.

This motivating and up-beat comedy explores how good friendships can help you know your worth and be comfortable alone.

It follows Alice, a young woman who has recently broken up with her college boyfriend, as she moves to New York City to be a paralegal.

After she befriends a party-loving, one-night stand expert co-worker Robin, Alice begins to confront her dependency on her ex-partner.

Toy Story

We couldn’t just pick one of the Toy Story films, so we recommend that you watch every single one of them!

Whilst many Disney films are about friendship, in some way, shape, or form, Toy Story stands out because of its unique setup.

This film series follows living toys and the incredible bonds they form with each other and their human owners.

Both adults and children alike will be captivated by the stories of Woody, Buzz, and their eccentric group of friends.

My Girl

If you’re not a fan of sad movies, please… do NOT watch My Girl.

However, if you’re looking for a wonderfully honest, wonderful, and devastating watch, this movie is perfect – just be sure to have the tissues ready!

It depicts the friendship formed by two 11-year olds Vada and Thomas.

Vada stands out from other children her age, but she develops a wonderful bond with sweet and loyal Thomas.

However, Vada must also learn harsh lessons about love, loss, and friendship.

Mean Girls

If you are looking for a fun chick flick, Mean Girls is perfect.

Since its release in 2004, this movie has become an icon for people of all genders and ages around the world.

It is the perfect, light-hearted movie to enjoy on an evening in.

It is probably important to note, however, that most of the friendships in this film should not be taken as good examples.

However, they are very entertaining and perfectly capture the nature of high school cliques and their all-consuming effects.
