Vampires are creatures from folklore who drink blood. They often appear in stories and legends, such as Dracula, Count Orlok, and Vlad Tepes.

In modern fiction, vampires are usually depicted as undead monsters who feed off human blood.

The Vampire Diaries is a television series that was created by Julie Plec. It premiered on The CW on October 9, 2009. The show follows the lives of a 17-year-old girl, Elena Gilbert, who moves to Mystic Falls.

She then meets Stefan Salvatore and his brother, Damon Salvatore. As the story progresses, she finds out about her family history and learns more about her supernatural heritage.

We have put together this list of shows that are similar to the Vampire Diaries that you may enjoy.

Shows Like Vampire Diaries

The Originals

How could we not mention the spin-off, The Vampire Diaries. The Originals is set in the same world of The Vampires, yet instead it tells the stories of the original vampire family.

It also answers a lot of questions viewers may have had when they watched the Vampire Diaries.

This show answers everyone’s questions about the very first vampires. What started off as just a spin-off show, has become extremely popular in its own rights. There is drama, vampires, wolves and lots of magic.

Being Human

Being Human centers on the lives of a ghost, vampire and werewolf all trying to live together.

They all go on their own journeys of self discovery as they try to find their own places in the world with humans.

It’s not only the supernatural elements that make this show similar to the Vampire Diaries. It is full of amazing romance storylines as well. These romances are ionic and emotional as well.

Charmed

Charmed is another TV show like the Vampire Diaries as it focuses on supernatural beings that are trying to fit in and live in the normal world.

If Bonnie was your favorite character in the Vampire Diaries, then you will love this show as we watch 3 witches try to protect the rest of the world.

Teen Wolf

Teen Wolf was loosely inspired by the 80s movie of the same name. Yet, this show has a much darker edge to it, similar to the Vampire Diaries.

These shows are quite similar to one another, except Teen Wolf focuses on werewolves that do appear in the Vampire Diaries. While also, both shows are set in small and close kit towns.

This show focuses on the life of the high school students known as Scott. His life is changed forever when he is bitten by a werewolf and becomes one himself. He now must learn how to deal with the supernatural world.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a classic TV show, which follows the character called Buffy.

Buffy is also a slayer whose job it is to keep the world free of dark supernatural creatures like demons and vampires.

It is highly likely that you have watched Buffy and even its own spin off show Angel, and they watched the Vampire Diaries.

However, if somehow you have still not watched this beloved and classic show, then you should!

Just like the Vampire Diaries, there are various vampires (and not all of them are good), complex storylines and a romance between a human and a vampire.

True Blood

True Blood

True Blood follows the story of Sookie who can read other people’s minds. Like a lot of mortals in this list and like in the Vampire Diaries, Sookie falls in love with a vampire.

True Blood is a much more adult show, but its supernatural elements and vampire romance will satisfy anyone looking to replace the hole the Vampires Diaries has left.

Salem

Salem is set around the Salem witch trials in the 17th Century. In this show, we follow the character known as Mary Sibley, who is one of the most powerful witches in Salem.

For any fan of the Vampire Diaries, this show is a must-watch. While the Vampire Diaries may have been mostly about vampires, with side stories around witches etc.

However, Salem still has the same romance and drama that got fans hooked with the Vampire Diaries to begin with.

From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn follows the story of Seth and Ritchie, two brothers who uncover a criminal vampire underworld while traveling. This show is definitely a bit more violent and graphic.

These two brothers have a similar bond and relationship to Stefan and Damon from the Vampire Diaries.

Hence, viewers will enjoy watching these brothers grow together and watch their relationship get stronger.

Viewers may also enjoy the redemptive story of Pandemonium, who like Klaus starts off as the bad guy but ends up a hero.

Shadowhunters

Shadowhunters has everything that the Vampire Diaries has. Lots of vampires, werewolves, witches and magical creatures.

We follow the story of Clary Fairchild who is revealed to be part of a long line of Shadowhunters. She has a determination to protect the world from dangerous supernatural creatures.

There is lots of action, romance and mysterious plots that keep you guessing, just like the Vampire Diaries.

Supernatural

Stefan and Damon’s relationship was a huge favorite of the Vampire Diaries fans. That brotherly relationship is seen in Supernatural with Sam and Dean.

These characters travel across America hunting supernatural entries and saving as many people as they can.

There isn’t much romance in this show, but there are plenty of supernatural creatures like vampires that any fan of the Vampire Diaries will enjoy.

Final Thoughts

We hope you have enjoyed this article, and have more shows to add to her never ending to be watched list.

You will enjoy all of these shows if you love the Vampire Diaries. Each one is surrounded by the supernatural and vampires, with complex storylines and romance between mortals and the supernatural.

These shows will be able to satisfy your Vampire Diaries needs, now the show has finished.
